With a foot of snow lying over the garden, I just couldn't wait another minute to place my spring order. I am desperate to think that spring will be here soon. Less than a month from now I'll plant the first of the seeds in little pots under the grow lights inside and before you know it, I'll be outside planting peas and lettuce! Here's just some of what you'll see--and eat!--at Tumbledown Farm this year. I decided to return to Johnny's in 2009 for most of my seed order, after several years of trying other seed companies. Johnny's just impresses me as a class act. (Their only negative being that they are in Maine and not Indiana!) I'll order the strawberries, some ground cover cranberries, and a cherry tree from Stark's before the weekend is out. And of course I'll pick up the odd sweet potato or other plant and supplies from the Wanamaker Feed and Seed, and the perennial flowers from Daman's. That'll be about it this year. Can't be too extravagant, what with the recession and all. But for $80, I think I've stocked the larder quite well. Now if the weather will just cooperate, we'll have great eating all summer long.
